HorseSense for Special Riders, Inc is looking for a volunteer coordinator intern for the summer and/or fall. This position includes but is not limited too: - Volunteer Coordination
- Volunteer Orientation
- Volunteer Supervision
Working as a HorseSense for Special Rider intern is a fun and rewarding experience. You will be able to learn valuable lessons in a hands-on environment. Why settle for a boring, routine internship when you can make a difference in the lives of people with special needs through the partnership of a horse? As a HorseSense for Special Riders intern you will be an important member of the HSSR organization with a role and responsibilities that impact the future growth of the program. No busy work here! The ideal candidate for this internship would be an independent, self-motivated person. HorseSense for Special Riders is operated out of a barn, there is not a central office space. The intern needs to have the commitment and drive to work independantly from home/school. More details on the position: This internship requires managing and coordinating volunteer schedules from home along with supervising volunteers at the barn on lesson nights. - Once rider schedules and volunteer lists have been finalized, the VC will assign volunteers to specific days and/or sessions. A list of potential substitutes and their contact information should be developed. Volunteers should be informed of their assignments, and of the procedure for contacting the VC if unable to attend a session. A copy of the volunteer schedule and substitute list shall be kept at the barn.
- On lesson days, the VC will monitor phone messages or any other method devised to communicate with the volunteers and acquire substitutes if needed.
- The VC will greet volunteers and work with them as to their availability for subsequent weeks. The VC should communicate with the instructors to insure that the needs of specific riders and horses are met. If riders are absent resulting in extra volunteers, the VC can direct them to other jobs (cleaning paddocks and tack, grooming horses, etc.) once the lesson has begun.
- The VC will log volunteers' hours and insure that supplies such as nametags, water bottles, etc. are adequately stocked. The VC is required to provide verification of hours and letters of recommendation as requested by volunteers. An accurate count of volunteers and volunteer hours must be maintained for insurance purposes.
- The VC will recruit current, trained volunteers to assist with new rider screenings when requested by the instructors.
- The VC should be prepared to substitute for absent volunteers if necessary.
Lessons are usually 4:00-7:00pm on Mon-Thurs. For more information contact Maggie at or (608) 791-4868 |
